The most renowned holiday company situated in theUKin the year 1936, called Butlins have grown so much from its initial form. On to its 75th birthday, Butlins history is worth taking a look.
In 1936 the first Butlins was opened inLincolnshire. It could lodge 1,000 holidaymakers and charged £2.12s.6d per head. Between 1937 and 1972, eight more camps were opened spreading all over theUK. During the time of Second World War, Butlins turned to be a training centre for HMS Royal Arthur. In 1999, each resort had its skyline pavilion. The intention of the pavilion was to weatherproof all the resorts by lodging entries to every entertainment venues, coffee bars and restaurants. The same company that made the Millennium Dome constructed the outer skin of the pavilion.
The long standing bond with Bourne Leisure and Butlins began in 2000 which brought forth the annual concerts to Butlins Minehead Resort. Stars of the time performed to an overflowing audience. In 2003, Butlins invested in upgrading existing accommodations and constructing hotels and restaurants. The Coast Restaurants and Yacht Club which offer tasty conventional British dishes from all over the world were constructed during the time. The Resort in Skegness was the first of its kind holiday-cum-education centre.
In 2004 horse riding, scuba diving, horse riding, and mountain bike rides were introduced in Minehead Resort. Skegness Resort boasts of an adult spa with sauna, gym, steam room and beauty treatments. In 2005 High Ropes course was introduced in Minehead Resort. Wedding services in all the resorts were launched in 2006. In 2009 Butlins enters in to a 125 year lease for Bognor Regis resort. In 2009 Ocean Hotel and Spa, was opened at Bognor Regis Resort, with more than 200 rooms and a lavish Spa to boast of. A 220 seat Dress Circle was constructed at Skegness in 2010 and landscaped gardens to augment sports were introduced in the three resorts.
Now in 2011, Butlins is planning to celebrate its 75th birthday with pomp and splendour. More projects are on the drawing board and Butlins is getting ready to invest further in fruitful ventures.
