WordFest reaching out to Croydon youth again

August 11th, 2014 by Sandy

WordFest will be offering a series of free events in creative writing and performance, across Croydon this summer, focused on the youth. WordFest in Croydon is being funded by the Arts Council of England. It was in 2012 that the first WordFest was held. The youth got the chance to explore creative writing, drama, dance, rap and journalism.

This year Croydon Libraries, Croydon Youth Arts-Team, Apples & Snakes and Club Soda (with young people) have worked out the programme. Young Producers will be driving the project on. Young Producers would be holding audiences for an open performance on 13 August, from 2PM to 5PM, at Thornton Heath Library. On 15 August, the finals of the free events will take place between 5PM and 6:30PM. A flashmob, singing, dancing and other verbal performances will be held on 16th August. Performances will be in the afternoon around Norwood. Carnival of Books will be the grand finale on 27 & 28 August. A Literary themed costume parade will be on 30 August, Saturday. The project comes to an end during Christmas (December 2014), with the Festival of Words Carnival.
