Wirral’s Festival of Firsts line-up reveals free events too

The Wirral Festival of Firsts this year will be showcasing many local, national talent amd international talents. The festival regarded as one of the most eclectic, has mostly free events, and is to take place from 7th July to 22nd July. Craig Ogden, classical guitarist, is back by popular demand. Kabantu band and poet Joe McMillan are also coming. Oxford Professor of Poetry, Simon Armitage, is a first time participant. Events include photography and poetry competitions, performances by local theatre and musicians.

The High Street will see ‘Wirral Past and Present Parade’ and there are three ‘Community Saturday’ events. There will be the annual Children’s Festival Day, Meols, West Kirby Summer Arts & Crafts Fair. A play for children called Persephone will be performed by a friends group, for the first time.

At the chair for festival planning is Linda Gardiner, who thanked all volunteers, supporters and sponsors for giving generously, to make a truly great community festival. She said this is a 100% volunteer run festival with free events and valued the commitment of volunteers and the partnership of organisations such as West Kirby Arts Centre and Melrose Hall, for a successful festival.
