Winter Awareness Day coming to Weymouth

November 26th, 2015 by Sandy

The ‘Get Ready for Winter Awareness Day’ is an awareness day to help people to protect themselves from extreme winter. This is a free event being organised by Weymouth & Portland Borough Council, on 3rd December, at the Ocean Room, Weymouth Pavilion, which will run from 3:00pm to 8:00pm.

Brief-holder for Environment and Sustainability at the council, Councillor Ian Roebuck, said the free event is a great chance to find out more about how to prepare for extreme weather. He also invited people to come and know more on how to get ready for winter and about the long-term plans to protect Weymouth from flooding. Information on the plans until 2115 will be there at the event. The plans are for a tidal barrier, improvements to Esplanade’s sea defences and new harbour walls. Questions will be answered by engineers at hand.

The free event will feature a host of information stands and experts to answer questions. Representation from organisations include the Dorset County Council, the Environment Agency, Dorset Fire and Rescue Service, engineering & emergency planning teams from Weymouth & Portland Borough Council, the Flood Advisory Service and Dorset Civil Contingencies Unit.
