Also included are the Dingwall Museum, Dingwall Auction Mart, the Green House and the restaurant- The Croft. Bill Anderson is the proprietor of specialist aviation second-hand bookshop, Highflight. David Duguid runs Picaresque the high street second-hand bookshop.
The festival will be opened by Sir John Lister-Kaye, renowned naturalist and author at an event in The Croft, starting off a host of literary events over the 2 days. Some of the authors to be featured include Pauline Macklay, Janet McInnes, Lizzie Macdougall, John Greene Lowberry, Mandy Haggith, Ewan McVicar, Terry Williams and Bob Pegg. Talks, story-telling, readings, songs, dramatic groups, exhibitions, activities, a lantern slide-show, workshops and many more will be seen at this free event. Lots of fun too have been promised. Free workshops by Google in Barkingside
Internet giant Google will be running two free workshops in Barkingside, on the 9th October, Friday, for businesses here. The special workshop seminars, coming under Google’s Digital Garage on Tour, will be held at Fullwell Cross Library, situated on High Street, in Barkingside, Redbridge. The sessions will run from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
Businesses, regardless of their technical expertise, will be taught in the 2 sessions on how to make the internet their growth engine. The chance for companies to these 2 free workshops were made with the help of Wess Streeting, MP for Ilford North. The MP said supporting local business was his priority and so he jumped at the chance when Google mentioned the Digital Garage on Tour, to bring these workshops to Ilford North. The free workshops will provide practical advice from experts, to make the most out of the digital revolution, he added. To sign-up for a place, attendees have to register at the website events.withgoogle.com/the-digital-garage-ilford.
Free golf lessons at Woburn by American Golf
The British Masters is being held for the first time after 2008, at the Woburn Golf Club, Bedfordshire. To mark the event and in support of the professional golf tournament, American Golf will be at the site offering the public free golf lessons. They will be exhibiting on the site and visitors taking up the free lessons will be offered to try out any of the company’s club range.
Thanks to the backing of Sky Sports, the return of the event was announced in March. The British Masters returns to the European Tour International Schedule after 7 years, to be held between 8th and 11th October, with a prize money totalling £3 million.
The sport-loving British have gobbled up all the 15,000 free tickets offered as part of the promotion – ‘Sky Sports Thursday’. This fresh and welcome approach prompted the involvement of American Golf in the tournament, which promises to be an exciting event with 5 major winners playing, 22 Ryder Cup players and 2 former World No.1 players, all to be seen on the greens. Spectators expected include a star-studded line-up. American Golf will offer activities for game improvement as well as free lessons for beginners, besides holding a Chipping Challenge.
