Free bowls sessions at Mid Devon Indoor Bowls Centre

The Mid Devon Indoor Bowls Centre is offering anyone wishing to try out the sport, 3 free taster sessions. The club also offers free hiring of bowls and shoes with the year-membership with a fee of £27 for novice. The club says this is cheap sport to try a hand at and decide before getting one’s own equipment. Bowls is a rare sport where sport where a 90 year old player can compete with a someone aged 13, at the same level. All can compete together, whether they are young or old, male or female, able bodied or disabled, novices or experienced players. Try out the free taster sessions.

The first match of the Mid Devon Bowls Centre, was held 21 years back on the 18th of December (1993). The club also has a great bar area and plays host to bingo nights, private functions, bring and buy sales. The whole building can be hired out for fun bowling evenings. There are a few families who have up to three generations been competing here. The bowls club has around 180 members. The club is operated by the members, who also keep it in top condition.

 

Free events at Lakes International Comic Art Festival, Kendal

This autumn will witness the second annual event of Lakes International Comic Art Festival taking place all over Kendal, the town situated south of the Lake District, from the 17th to 19th October. The event this year will see many free activities taking place and several free events at the Family Zone. Last year saw thousands of visitors and around 70 writers and artists from national and international comics participate. Entertainer and comic art fan, Jonathan Ross, has given his backing again and appealed to his followers to head north to the only comic art town in UK.

The Comics Family Zone is based in Kendal Library, Shakespeare Centre off Higate, Westmoorland Shopping Centre, with face painting, screen-printing, workshops, competitions and many free activities. Visitors can make their own comics, create characters, get a comic artist to draw, they can learn to draw, bring them to life and tell stories. The Family Zone line up has artists from Phoenix Comics, such as Laura Anderson, Neill Cameron, Adam Murphy and Gary Northfield. There are workshops that are for 6 to 10 year olds and teen workshops for 12 to 16 year olds. Find artist Kev F. Sutherland give drawing master-class. Teaming up with schools, colleges and community groups, The Kendal Business Improvement District will support the Windows on Art Trail, a trail to follow through the town. Beales Department Store will host the festival mascots Poblin and The Lakes Gang. Many events are ticketed too. Edinburgh’s Hispanic Festival offers free events and Flamenco

The Hispanic Festival will be hosted in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh for the tenth time this year. One of the highlights at the festival will be the free event, the Edinburgh Flamenco Flashmob. It will be performed on 10th October, spectacularly choreographed and hosted this time at the National Museum of Scotland’s gallery. Free and open to all, the flamenco flashmob dance will be performed at 1PM. Working in partnership will be Capability Scotland, on a project supported by Big Lottery Communities 2014.

Another highlight will be art exhibitions by visual artists, Antonio Castro and Julio Campos, to open on 14th October at Gayfield Creative Spaces. The Hispanic Festival will take some events to Aberdeen too. The connections of the two cultures of Edinburgh and Spain are strong and enjoyable, celebrated in great style with a free event of flamenco flashmob this year, following the success of last year.
