Free events at the Christmas celebrations in Weymouth
Make the most of Christmas celebrations on 1st December (Friday) in Weymouth. Start with BIG-Christmas Lighting-up Celebration and then Christmas Entertainment starting at 2pm. Entertainment includes choirs, dance troupes, singers, a Santa parade and much more. Join the countdown at 6:00pm for this year’s BIG Christmas Lights switch-on, when the Mayor of Weymouth & Portland will turn on the lights along with the Panto cast. The town will have Christmas stalls offering hot chocolate, chestnut, mulled wine, sweets, candy floss tubs and Cider Flagon Wagon.
There’s also a ice skating rink – Real Ice Rink, which will be open all night, located in New Bond Street. Santa will arrive with his parade to occupy his grotto in Cineworld and is available very weekend and on the 3 days leading to Christmas Day, but entry tickets are needed. On 2nd December, the town links to Small Business Saturday, the national retail initiative, with the BIG Christmas Celebration continuing. Revel in the spirit of Christmas and shop by the sea, from a range of boutique and high-street stores. Enjoy the restaurants, bars or cafes. Enjoy Christmas Carols on 17th December, around the giant Christmas Tree.
Weymouth’s BID’s Event Manager, Paul Mills, said they have a great line-up of family entertainment with the launch of BIG Christmas, with also the Road Closures up for this event . Weymouth’s BIG Christmas is supported by the Gold Sponsor ASDA and other Bronze Sponsors like Milsred Langdon, McDonalds, Pennywise, Resort Marketing, Weymouth College and others. Weymouth BID’s Board of Directors thanks the sponsors of events, for making the free event a great success.
Free workshop on mental health at Crawley
Crawley will be hosting a free young people’s leadership workshop on mental health, on 2nd December at Crawley Library, between 1:30pm and 4pm. It is for those who campaign for mental health. Time to Change campaigns to challenge people’s attitude and behaviour towards mental health and is running the training, with support from its partners in Time to Change West Sussex, who are Sussex Oakleaf and Coastal West Sussex Mind. If you are a parent of persons 16 years or above, the workshop will help them to find out more about mental health and on how the stigma in the community can be tackled.
Louisa Hernandez, the stigma and awareness manager at Coastal West Sussex Mind, said a warm welcome for young people awaits them at the workshops, which is a great opportunity to gain confidence and develop leadership qualities. There will be information on mental health services and mental health first aiders will be there, she added.
The free workshop gives training in leadership, helpful in all areas of life. It builds skills and confidence needed to plan and run an event, such as for the Time to Talk Day coming in February, besides the opportunity to meet other young people who are passionate about mental health campaigning. The session will help you know what’s there in Cawley to support your mental well-being.
Book your place via the Eventbrite website (www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/time-to-change-west-sussex-coastal-west-sussex-mind-15397727851). To know more about the training call on Ph:01903-277000, or email to – Louisa.hernandez@coastalwestsussexmind.
