Free Hip Hop history event at Leeds City Museum
Following the successful celebration of Hip Hop culture last year, this year which marks the 41st year of Hip Hop, will be again celebrated. The free event, which is a lesson in hip hop history, will be held at Leeds City Museum, on 14th December, Saturday, starting at 11:00am and ending at 4:00pm. The 42 years of the founding family of Hip Hop culture, the Universal Zulu Nation, formed by Africa Bambaastaa, the legendary artist, will also be celebrated. The event includes performances from local and national artists. Akala the journalist, poet and English rapper will be here in a question and answer panel with American Hip Hop artist Talib Kweli.
The assistant curator at Leeds Museums and Galleries, Marek Romaniszyan, said the event is a great opportunity to learn about Hip Hop which has influenced our society and a chance for those interested to learn more. Lead member for museums and galleries, Councillor Brian Selby, said hosting a vibrant event like this is about celebrating things that have made a deep and lasting impression on modern society. This is a free event for all ages to participate.
Free workshop on protecting ancient trees of Plymouth
A free workshop on protecting ancient trees will take place on 21st November, Saturday, in St. Germans. It is part of the Cornwall heritage project, the Helping Hands for Heritage and the last one. This workshop is the third one on ancient tree protection and will provide the skills to the participants that is needed to help survey and record the special and ancient trees in the Tamar valley.
Leading the event will be Tim Kellett of Cornwall Ancient Tree forum. The free workshop will begin in the morning with the indoor session. It will be followed in the afternoon by practical activities. It will be held with permission of Lord and Lady St. Germans on the Port Eliot estate. Free event, the Morley College’s Winter Fair
Morley College is hosting Winter Fair, a free event celebrating Festivities around the World. The event returns on the 6th December (Sunday) to start off the festive season. The fair is open from 11:00am to 3:00pm, at Morley College on Westminster Bridge Road in Lambeth.
Visitors can find here arts and crafts stalls, street-food, family activities, a raffle, music and dance and much more. They can shop for handmade gifts and soaps, for men’s Knit wear, London tea towels, Japanese crafts, Greek jewellery, German baby’s clothing, children’s books and many more. The fair highlight includes performance of Japanese Koto music, a live sculpturing demo and Indian Kathak dancing. Regional treats here include, French crepes and macarons, mulled wine and mince pies, savoury and sweet, etc. Young ones will enjoy face-painting and visiting Santa’s grotto.
