Many free events at Banchory River Festival
The Banchory River Festival of this year has many free events and is more family-focused than before. The programme is in its third year running and set to enliven the Banchory this June, and dubbed as “#BRF2015”.
Following the River Womble clean up, starting Friday early evening, it will be followed by a Bat Walk and a Banchory Quiz. Saturday will see the Community Village in Bellfield Park hosting more than 45 retail and charity stalls. The Banchory Pipe Band and Deeside Dance Centre will provide entertainment and also the Knitting The Bridge, a mysterious team of knitting ninjas. Sunday will see a jaunt along the Deeside Way by those joining Belles on Bikes.
There will be a Duck Race at Crathes, in Coy Burn, plus canoeing to try out. People can also try fishing at the Raemont Trout Fishery. ‘River Fish Project’ will display ceramic swimmers on the Dee river bank. The community project is open to all and runs up to October. Some events like canoeing, cycling, fishing and the ceilidh need advance booking. Free art classes for youngsters at Newton-le-Willows
A ten-week project will be offering youngsters art and craft sessions, that will be free of charge. The free sessions are to be based on the heritage and history of Newton-le-Willows and the classes are open for both boys and girls, from the ages of 9 to 16. They will learn of here 4 decorative techniques and would be making 9 products at least in the programme. Their work of art will be later displayed at Hope Academy (on Aston Road) in Newton-le-Willows (St. Helens).
DBS-checked teachers will be running the free sessions which are on Thursdays, between 6:00pm and 8:00pm. On Fridays, it will be between 5:00pm and 7:00pm. The sessions will be held at Passoul Studio, Market Street (St. Helens). To enrol, fill-up a permission form of theirs. Free Activities at Northolt Leisure Centre
The Northolt Leisure Centre, Middlesex, will open its doors for a day of free activities on 9th May in celebration of the completion of its refurbishment for 500,000 and to raise money for the Anthony Nolan Trust. The centre is operated by Everyone Active on behalf of the Ealing Council and invites both members and non-members of all abilities and ages to attend between 9:00am & 4:00pm, on that day with a one off timetable, which includes inflatable fun and swimming in the pool. Included are indoor cycling and Zumba session, with also virtual classes in the spin studio. Children can have taster swimming sessions, gymnastics, street dance, ballet and mixed martial arts. Young ones will have face painting and balloon modelling. There are chances to win prizes too.
