Free taster session in orienteering in Sutton Coldfield

The free taster session for the urban orienteering event is back this 27th March, Saturday, taking place between 11.00am and 2.00pm, being hosted by the City of Birmingham Orienteering Club. After last year’s first ever event in Sutton Coldfield, people have another chance to try out the fun activity at this introductory orienteering event being hosted around Birmingham Metropolitan College and Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School.

Orienteering is a challenging outdoor adventure sport. While navigating a course participants can walk or run. They use a detailed map and sometimes a compass for the course. The sport is suitable for people of all ages, abilities or backgrounds. The sport involves navigating between a given set of control points in a sequence. Participants decide the best route to complete the course in the shortest time. No special equipments are needed, as long as participants can walk or run, they can join. For more details and about the free taster please contact on phone 07999 383 194, Mick Sadler. More info available on the website- coboc.org.uk.

Free tickets for living history performance at Elizabeth House, the Barbican

The Elizabeth House in the Barbican of Plymouth, will be hosting a living history performance- ‘A Blast From The Past: And Back Again’, in a unique project to bring the building’s past to modern audiences. The performance will première in May, on 30th May (Saturday) and 31st May (Sunday) as part of the Plymouth History Festival, at The Merchant House. It again returns in June and July on every Saturday and Sunday.

The unique project could help start a transformation in the way we view and celebrate the city’s heritage, by engaging in Plymothians and drawing in more visitors. The Elizabeth House in New Street dates back from the 1500s. As one of Plymouth’s oldest heritage buildings, it has been from 1930, a museum. The audience for the performance will gather at the Barbican Theatre and move to the Elizabeth House for the performance.

The Heritage Lottery Fund has granted nearly £20,000 to the Barbican Theatre to work wit the Arts and Heritage service of Plymouth City Council, on the ‘A Blast From The Past…’ project. The free tickets to the performances will be available at the Barbican Theatre.

Free taster session by Pinkering’s Gin at the Job Centre

As the pub group Antic’s Deptford bar, the Job Centre, has its kitchen space empty since its launch in June last year, they are hosting an event to fill it with street food, called ‘Kitchen Hijack’, that is launching on 26th March, Thursday. On 28th, March, Saturday, there will be a free taster session with Pinkering’s Gin, Edinburgh’s first gin distillery in over 150 years.

Running until the arrival of the bar’s permanent kitchen, ‘Kitchen Hijack’ will bring in a selection of the finest emerging vendors from the street food circuit, over the weeks. Each “kitchen hijacker” will be allotted a 3-day session at the new salon bar, in turns at the culinary quarters, serving a variety of dishes right from barbecued meats to vegetarian treats, across the 5 weeks of the event.

The Job Centre will be hosting a series of live music events, DJ slots and one-off performances over the weeks too. Don’t miss the free taster session plus all the treats that any street food junkie or audacious foodie would love to devour from London’s finest street food masters.
