Mr. Kipling offers free cake at Bus Stops!

Thanks to  Mr. Kipling anyone waiting for a bus at a bus-stop can enjoy a slice of Angel Slices cake for free. Nineteen cake dispensing machines that look like billboards have been installed across the UK at selected good bus shelters, by Mr. Kipling. They claim to give away 500 slices of cakes everyday. Sites include London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Nottingham and Sheffield. All you have to do is to press the button marked and along comes the wrapped slice of cake- Angel Slices, followed by the delicious aroma of cakes fleshly baked. The offer is for a limited period only and to promote their new cake-to-go products. There will be a “cakemobile” too, touring the UK. So try out a piece, it’s a piece of cake!

Oxford launches free interactive course book

The Internet Institute of Oxford University will provide its digital text books free of cost for both its students and also the public. This is in fact an example set to show how well an institution can come up with their digital study materials. Oxford Internet Institute has developed Geographies of the World’s Knowledge using graphics and text to spread the information.

This digital medium is mainly designed to compare information on internet use, research activity, Wikipedia references and content on Google. Internet Institute has created this course book with interactive medium using Apple’s iBook format.

However, good news with this concept is that this format can be downloaded by anyone apart from the students of Oxford. According to Prof. Mayer-Schonberger, readers can interact and make decisions as they learn. He warns all digital publishing companies who would try to copy their concept instead encourage them to develop their own methodologies. He also adds that a new language must be adopted for interacting with the medium.

Currently, this course is taken up by more than 90,000 students around the world and will run until June 2012.

London’s Overground train stations to get free WiFi
