The Give and Take event is coming to Carlisle
The Give and Take day is a free event taking place in Carlisle, next Saturday, on 17th March, at Botcherby Community Centre on Victoria Road. People can come along and pick any item for free and give away any unwanted items, at the event running from 10:30am to 1:30pm. It is an opportunity to grab a household freebie for householders and to give away items no longer needed. Anyone can pop in and there’s no need to bring anything to donate, in order to take something away as a freebie.
This event has been organised by the Waste Prevention Team of Cumbria County Council, after holding these popular events in a number of areas across the county. Waste Prevention Officer, Judith Bradshaw, at Cumbria County Council, said what one person needs no more can be just what another is looking for and these events are a great way to prevent thousands of useful items going into the waste treatment centre.
The Botcherby Community Centre Manager, Helen Fisher, is delighted to host the event and said it would be of great use and benefit to the local community. Anything leftover after the free event, will be donated to local charity shops. Further details can be learnt from the Waste Prevention Officer Judith Bradshaw on 07768-724863, or call the Botcherby Community Centre Manager, Helen Fisher, on 01228-596992.
Preston to host two big free events
Preston is all set to host two big events at its Flag Market venue, on 5th May, Saturday. One is the ‘Fashion Rocks’ event and the other is the ‘Prestfest’ event. They are being arranged by Preston BID with active support of businesses of the city centre. Fashion Rocks will be presented by Gok Wan the ‘catwalk king’, which will run from 11:30am to 4:30pm. This is a free to attend event, sponsored by St George’s Shopping Centre and Fishergate Shopping Centre. Gok will have international models parading ‘must have’ styles fit for males and females of all ages, fusing independent brands, high-street labels and new designers, with an eclectic soundtrack.
The Flag Market venue will turn from 6:30pm into concert arena. The Prestfest event will be hosted to celebrate winning of the night time economy sector award of ‘Purple Flag’ by the city. Acts confirmed include Melanie C (of Spice Girls fame), who will perform her DJ as part of the event. Alongside will be SASH!, the retro-European dance DJ, to offer different dynamics, playing his hits ‘Ecuador’, ‘Stay’ and ‘Encore Une Fois’. There will be also live performances of DJ Ben Santiago (Café Mambo Ibiza) and Lovely Laura, the sax sensation in demand.
The Prestfest event is expected to be a sell-out, as yet with many acts unannounced. President of PrestonBID, Mark Whittle, is proud they have put together, working with the retail and leisure businesses here, two huge free entry events that will bring in thousands of people to celebrate the city’s award-winning status and promote the city and businesses.
