The Summer Parade is part of the South Tyneside Festival 2015, which forms a 3-month programme of free events. South Tyneside Festival Summer Parade will be held on 4th July, Saturday, sponsored by Careline Lifestyles. Silken Strings, a unique act of classical music crossover, will join a host of fairytale costumes at the event. The famous electric string trio Silken Strings, will be appearing at the Summer Parade. South Tyneside Council will be organising the Alice-in-Wonderland themed event, that will see participation of a number of costumed characters depicting the Cheshire Cat, the White Rabbit and Alice. All of them will be there to mark Lewis Carol’s classic tale’s 150th anniversary.

Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council, Councillor Alan Kerr, responsible for culture and leisure, said that the Summer Parade is a key event of the festival and they expect thousands of visitors watching on the route starting from the Town Hall to the seafront. Free taster swimming lessons to save lives

Supporting the national campaign of Drowning Prevention Week, free taster swimming lessons are being offered by the Embassy Swimming Pool and also a rookie in-house gala event. The rookie event will be held on 26 June, Friday, at 5:30PM. On 27 June, Saturday, the swimming lessons will be held from 10:30AM. The Royal Life Saving Society (the drowning prevention charity) will provide resources and activities. The charity wishes to ensure all have fun and stay safe near water.

Operations Manager at the Embassy Pool, Christine Malpas, pointed out that in the UK, the third largest cause of accidental death in children is drowning. He added that nearly 400 persons in UK drown each year, with thousands nearly drowning, many suffering life changing injuries and so they are happy to help the charity to reduce these accidents by informing how to be safe near water.
