Free tickets to Jess Glynne’s act at Wincanton Racecourse
Free tickets will be offered to anyone wanting tot see Jess Glynne’s act live in Somerset. The singer will be performing at the Wincanton Racecourse gig alongside Mullally, Kiko Bun and DJ Sarah Cox, on 1st July. Somerset Live is offering 150 pairs of free tickets to celebrate the 150 years of racing at Wincanton Racecourse.
To get the chance to win a pair of tickets, just like and share your comment on the Facebook post of Somerset Live Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/somersetlive/). Only one entry per person is permitted. Winners will be chosen at random, after the closing of the competition on 21st June. The winners will be contacted after the closing with details about getting the free tickets.
A van will be touring Somerset, promoting the event, on 14, 15 and 16 June. The van will also visit Gillingham, Sherborne, Bridgewater, Taunton, Frome, Shaftsbury, Trowbridge, Glastonbury, Warminster, Trowbridge, Yeovil, Shepton Mallet, Wincanton, Blandford and Taunton.
All you need to do is to take a selfie with the van and tweet the pic using the hashtag – #JessGlynneWincanton, to the Jockey Club Live at @TheJCLive and to @Somerset_Live. Sara Cox of the BBC2, the host of ‘Sound of the 80s’, will warm the audience on the 1st July, in the first music-only event evening at the venue. She will be followed by Mullally and Kiko Bun at the gig. One of the lucky winners of the free ticket will have the chance to meet with Jess Glynne, whose album – I Cry When I Laugh, was last year the highest selling debut album.
Borders Book Festival has free events.
The Baillie Gilford Borders Book Festival is slated for the weekend and has a 100-event programme this year. Stars of the stage, literature and screen are expected to descend on Melrose.
The Borders Book Festival is held in association with Baillie Gilford investment managers, in the surroundings of Harmony House, which runs from 15th June, Thursday, to 18th June, Sunday.
Visitors marking the event include, TV legend Michael Parkinson, actress Anne Reid, actor John Cheese, Judy Murray – top international tennis coach, TV adventurer Steve Backshall, crime writers Chris Brookmyre, Val McDermind and others. Script-editor Richard Porter and ex-MP Joan Ruddock will talk about their work, which are just a few of the sessions being offered at the book festival.
The Schools Gala Day on Thursday will see about 2,000 children from local primary schools, along with teachers, attending the event. There’s free entry into Harmony Gardens, where live music fill in between events, a family-friendly food village under tents, a street market with food, drink and gift, drinks tasting and a bookshop. Free events for kids include circus skills, storytelling and stilt walkers.
