Return of free village sports day to Liphook.

A free village sports day is being sponsored by Bramshott and Liphook Paris Council, along with the East Hampshire district council, this summer. The sporting extravaganza will be held on 2nd July (Saturday), at the village of Liphook. The successful village sports day thus returns this year too.
The free event aims to promote sports activities and facilities available at Liphook. People are encouraged to come here to get to meet established members and play taster games to consider joining a club.
Prizes will be awarded indifferent age categories to those people who take part in the most number of sports on the village sports day. Available on the day will be gymnastics, table-tennis, rugby, football, cricket, golf, basketball, tennis, tchoukball, netball and pickleball. Although triathlon is part of this year, it will be held on 3 July between 10am and noon, but at Highfield School.
Parish councillor of Bramshott and Liphook, Jane Ives, said that the second village sports day ia a completely free event and suitable for the whole family. Once again Bohunt School will be giving full access to the equipment and facilities, in support of the free event. Many of the sports will be located here, with others being held at the Recreation Ground, the councillor added. Sports clubs here are offering participants free taster sessions of their sport.

Free events at York Folk Weekend

The City of York Folk Weekend will be held at the historic Black Swan Inn, Peasholm Green, and will run from Friday to Sunday, this weekend. Considered as York’s biggest acoustic music jamboree, the event will have live entertainment in every corner of the Black Swan Inn.
About 50 singers and bands, along with dozens of informal participants will play at this 14th annual edition of the event in York. Participants will be also be invited on Sunday to two workshop sessions, one to sing with Soundsphere (vocal harmonisers) and another a Song-writing session hosted by Simon Alexander. A special workshop for children- ‘Bash’, will be held by Chris Bartram and Jane Stockdale. Saturday’s lunchtime will see poets and storytellers in open reading, followed by music and a storytelling event. There are numerous other acts by various musicians and artists.
Roland Walls, lead organiser, said there will be a marquee stage, plus music making indoors, with concerts, singarounds, sessions, workshops, a ceilidh, themed events and more. Sample of world music will be provided by Japanese drummers of Kaminari Taiko. There’s also Chechelele, American Folk by Phil Cerny, Irish music by Roisin Ban and many others.
