Tickets to see mechanical puppet ‘Man Engine’ on Blaenavon visit
Public tickets are available to see the ‘Man Engine’, the largest mechanical puppet ever constructed in Britain, on its visit to Torfaen this April. A towering sculpture that resembles a miner, it stands at 4 metres when down ‘crawling’ and at 11.2 metres height when transformed to ‘stand’. It is animated by a team consisting of more than a dozen artists.
The giant machine was created by Golden Tree Productions in Cornwall to honour the mining industry and its workers. As per reports, the giant iron puppet will visit several heritage industrial sites of South Wales on, the Man Engine Cymru: Forging a Nation’ tour, set between 8th and 24th April.
The tour aims to make people reflect and celebrate in a festive atmosphere about their industrial past. The tour kicks-off at Blaenavon’s Big Pit Museum, with a parade passing through Gilchrist Industrial Estate. The event will feature brass bands, choirs and theatrics, running from 11am to 4:30pm. Free entry will be granted to the Big Pit for visitors, from 11am to 1pm and to the Gilchrist Industrial Estate. However, tickets are required to the celebrations between 2pm and 4:30pm, at Blaenavon Ironworks.
The Welsh tour is a collaboration between Swansea University, National Museum Wales, Golden Tree Productions, Head4Arts, seven councils and the Welsh Government’s Cadw, which includes locations and venues in Swansea, Tydfil, Merthyr and Rhondda Cynon Taf.
