Free taster session in roller derby at Glyndwr University
Roller Derby is an action sport that features 2 roller-skating teams, skating around a track in the same direction. Both teams designate a scoring player or a jammer, who scores points by lapping the opposite team members on the track. The team attempts to obstruct the opposing jammer while helping their own jammer to score points. Match fixtures are actually a series of short jams (matches), where teams attempt obstruct each other.
One of the teams, Wrexham Rejects was founded by Jenny Coppock, in June of 2013. It runs teams at Glyndwr University for juniors, men and women. Jenny will be on a TV show soon. The roller derby film will be recorded on 24th January, in Oldham and later broadcast in spring. She hopes that her appearance would encourage other people to take up roller derby, the action-packed sport. Those interested in roller derby can join a free taster session on 28th January (Wednesday), at Glyndwr University, to be held from 8PM to 10PM. For details please email to- recruitment@wrexhamrejects.co.uk.
