Free tickets to ‘Free Until Famous’ comic show
Stand-up comedian Lewis Shaffer will be performing at the Burnley Mechanics (in Burnley, Leicestershire), on 7th February, Saturday. His critically acclaimed new show ‘Free Until Famous’ will be held at this venue, for which free tickets will be offered, but must be booked through the Burnley Mechanics box office, from where it is available. The comic is going through a bad period after having left his beloved New York, having had children and having got a divorce, all in his time in UK. Schaffer is a regular performer at Peter Cook’s Establishment Club, has the longest running residency at Leicester Square Theatre and is on Resonance FM London, as the star of Nunhead American Radio. He makes his show very different and thrilling with his “jazz” style of free-wheeling comedy. For more details call on phone 01282-664400; or log on to site- burnleymechanics.co.uk.
Win an annual bus travel pass free from Arriva
Arriva that runs bus services in England, is offering customers the chance to win 12 months free bus travel, when they enter the bus company’s website to book discounted 4-week tickets. These passengers purchasing the ticket will be entered in a draw to win the free prize- the 12 month pass, for each ticket bought.
The marketing and communication manager at Arriva north west, Debra Heaton, said their 4-week travel pass offers customers great value by at least 40% savings, against buying daily tickets. But buying them online this month save them an added 10% off the price of a 4-weekly ticket, she added. She pointed out that their online prices will not be available after 31st January, nor the opportunity of winning the 12-month free travel. Commencing 5th February, a winner for the free pass will be selected from passengers, at random, in the week. For more details go to site- arrivabus.co.uk/last-chance. Timetable and info is available in the website- arrivabus.co.uk/north-west.
Norfolk Council offers free tree shredding events
The West Norfolk Council is encouraging residents to recycle Christmas trees they like to dispose after the festivities. The council is offering, at two free events in the weekend, to shred their real Christmas trees. Shredded into chippings, this can help suppress weed growth or improve soil condition. The free sessions are on 10th January, Saturday, at the car park of Hunstanton Recreation Ground, from 10AM to Noon. The next is on Gayton Road, Gaywood, at the Gaywood Plant Nursery, from 1PM to 3PM. In the mean time, residents of Downham can, on 11th January, leave their trees for disposal at the offices of the council in Paradise Road.
Cabinet member for environment at West Norfolk Council, Brian Long, said to dispose off real Christmas trees after the festivities, this is the convenient, sustainable method. The chippings can be left for the council to use in public gardens or parks, or can be taken away, carried properly by the people, he added.
