Free music sessions for young aspirants at Salisbury

The Salisbury Arts Centre is hosting a new series of free sessions and workshops for music development, to young people aspiring to be musicians, through a new project specifically designed to help them enter the music industry,

Thanks to the funding offered by Wiltshire Music-Service, budding musicians have now the opportunity to try out popular music forms. The Salisbury Arts Centre, with this support, will be launching a series of workshops/performance sessions. Starting with the New Year, informal sessions will be held in the Salisbury Arts Centre, along with a series of outreach workshops, providing participation places to the Tidworth and Bemerton Heath communities. Additionally, a new song-writing class will be launched as a spring workshop for young people. Popular music genres and new compositions can be explored here along with opportunity to perform and record.

The Manager of engagement at the arts centre, Simon Morris, said that there are so many talented people here who have potential to make it to the music industry, but don’t have the resources. The next free session of development opportunity will be a workshop on career advice and the music industry, to be held at the Salisbury Arts Centre, on 20th December, Saturday, between 2PM & 5PM.

Free courses on mental health by Recovery College get booked fast

The Options-Recovery College reports that the free educational courses that support people in mental well-being are getting fully booked in January, when its spring term begins. People of North Lincolnshire have nearly booked all spaces to full, a month earlier than they are to start.

The college, run by Rotherham-Doncaster & South-Humber NHS-Foundation Trust, which is operating from Sandfield House as its base situated on Ashley High Street, has added 3 new taster sessions which are to help people find out about which course is suitable to them. This is to cope with the huge level of interest shown by the people. The courses give support to people to manage everyday mental health issues, such as, sleep related problems, low in mood or self-confidence, anxiety and stress. They offer support in improving overall physical and mental health too.

Also, 2 new courses are being introduced this term, to cope with mindfulness and distress. It is developed to help persons who spend time thinking of past events, and those who spend time worrying about the future.

Manager of Options-Recovery College, Sue Watson, said that people who had attended the course in the first term are now recommending it to friends and family members. The new term commences on 13th January, 2015, and few spaces are available for the free courses.
