Newcastle parks host free family activities for spring
Thousands of people will be enjoying a host of family fun activities by ParkLives, which will run across the parks in Newcastle. The free programme is being organised by Newcastle City Council and powered by Active Newcastle, with Coca Cola Great Britain. ParkLives will offer hundreds of activities across 11 city parks. Up to 17 sessions in a week will hold activities designed for people of all abilities and all ages. Some of the new activities being introduced this time include dog walking socials, led bike rides and Nordic Walking. Besides traditional sports such as rounders, football and table tennis, there will be quirky activities to taste. The adventurous can go for bootcamps and running. For the full timetable of activities this spring and summer, please go to website- parklives.com. People can register here and also choose sessions. Every session is led by a trained activity leader and all are free sessions. David Fay who is the head of Newcastle’s leisure, libraries and learning, has said they are excited about the second year of ParkLives events, as this year would be better. There will be lots of family activities for everyone and the new programme will start from 20th April, Monday, he added.
Free introductory course in practical philosophy
Those who wish to know about practical philosophy for self-discovery, have an opportunity to attend a free introductory course on this, on 28 April, in Oldham, Greater Manchester. The venue is at the North Chadderton School, on Chadderton Hall Road, Oldham, in the Sixth Form Centre. The session starts at 7:15PM. The course has been running for more that 30 years and hundreds of students have attended the classes, coming from both Oldham and from the surrounding areas.
The course in practical philosophy helps people towards self-discovery and develop a perspective, by learning to live in the present. It gives practical ways to explore the self and looks at mindfulness and to put it to every moment. The course looks at how wisdom is acquired, at consciousness and awareness, the theory of unity in everything and at reasoning power. The course does not try to cover all systems of philosophy, yet offers plenty to those interested in questions of life and the world. Personal experiences and observation is given importance above theory. For details on the free session and more, visit the website- practicalphilosophy.co.uk.
