The spectacular event, the Torbay Airshow, will be taking place on 10th, 11th and 12th June, falling on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, at the Paignton Green, Torbay. The free event which is estimated to attract 150,000 visitors over the weekend, includes a breathtaking flying programme, with the Red Arrows participating. On 10th June (Friday) a evening aerial display is being planned with the launch party- ‘Lift-Off’. On 11th June (Saturday), there will be Armed Forces Parade and from 2:00pm to 5:00pm there will be a flying programme, both on 11 and 12th June. In the following weeks the schedule will be revealed.
Paignton Green will also a host a large event village, with fair rides, entertainment, bars and catering. There will be ticketed special enclosures and helicopter flights. To coordinate the military and civilian aircraft flying displays, a leading airshow consultant has been employed. To partly fund the cost of the airshow, a start-up grant has been given by the Coastal Communities Fund. It is hoped this free event will become an annual event in the Torbay calendar.
Mayor of Torbay, Gordon Oliver, said the airshow promises to be a memorable one, the right type of family event needed here and will bring substantial boost to the Bay economy. Councillor Nicole Amil, the Executive-Lead for Tourism, Culture and Harbours, said their Bay has great facilities and a beautiful coastal location for an airshow and that will benefit the residents and visitors. The free event will be hosting activities from 2pm to 10pm on Friday, from 10am to 10pm on Saturday and from 10am to 6pm on Sunday, during the eventful weekend, and appealing to all.
