Tall Ships are expected to sail by this summer, into Sunderland, for the Tall Ships Race Sunderland 2018. The largest free event of its kind in the country, the 4-day festival is expected to bring in over 1.5 million visitors. The festival will sail into the city on 11th July (Wednesday) and bring with it family fun and entertainment for 4 days, to culminate in the start of this iconic race over the North Sea.
The tall sailing ship festival, that begins on Wednesday, will have participating ships sail into Sunderland. Visitors will be allowed on board, while the crew of ships will involve in inter-ship sporting activities. The festival will run around the city across 4 different event zones, over the 4 days, with also a crew parade, street theatre, displays and live music, before the race starts on Friday , 13th July. The ships will parade on Saturday, 14th July, along the coast, before setting sail to Esbierg in Denmark, on the first leg of the race. Even after the departure of the ships, the entertainment onshore will follow into the evening.
Steering the event in Sunderland is one of the most respected project managers, with a wealth of experience, Michelle Daurat, the driving force behind it and in the 2010 event too. Michelle and her 4-member team are confident this big free event will be even more successful this year.
