‘The Messines Story’ is an event to be hosted by the Mid and East Antrim Borough Council at the Braids Art Centre in Ballymena, through their Good Relations programme. The free event is being hosted on 28th November (Tuesday) and is also the opportunity to watch the screening of the short-film ‘Battle of Messines’, produced by the Nerve Centre.
The event also includes the Local Stores Exhibition- The Great War 1917 – Messines and Passchendaele, which creates a backdrop to the event, hosted by Mid and East Antrim Museum. There’s also a local community performance, telling a story set in 1917, about two brave solders.
Councillor Paul Reid, the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, said the story of Messines has a positive influence in peace building, fostering good relations and also to remember those who fought and gave their lives during the Great War. This event has been developed by the people working together and he wants everyone living in Mid and East Antrim to feel safe, respected and welcome, he remarked.
