August 22nd, 2016 by Sandy

A free event is coming to Shillingstone Station, on 4th September (Sunday), to celebrate and remember the closed Somerset and Dorset Railway. The performance, ‘The Lost Railway’, is to be held at the station at 7:30pm and is a free event for all ages, with sound, light, song, music and performance. The show will light up the old station in the evening, allowing people to watch and wander in, to be lost in the evocative sounds and a railway line made of light.

The performance is like an evening tale, recalling the sounds and life, stories and closure. The show will have lighting effects, songs, live music and stories. The evening will be featuring the life of Dorset and Somerset and will conclude with tea and biscuits. Until the last train ran in 1966, the S & D Railway was an important part of the social an economic scene and a great sound and sight in the West. The Somerset and Dorset Railway Trust treasures the revived trains, its equipment, rolling stock and archives, in its memory.

As part of a series, this free event, ‘The Lost Railway’, commemorates the railway lines’ closure. The show is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and being created and performed by Rag and Bone outdoor performance company.
