September 12th, 2016 by Sandy

The Dunmow Carnival is back this year on 17th September (Saturday), with more music, big parades and fireworks too, to be held at the Recreation Grounds of the historic market town of Great Dunmow, in the Uttlesford district of Essex.

The free event will start at the Angel & Harp pub at 1:00pm, with the procession winding its way through Market Place to the High Street and then going down Braintree Road, then up St. Edmunds Lane and ending where it started off. Dance classes, theatre groups, martial arts clubs and schools will be showcasing their talents from 12:15 pm to 4:40pm at the event. Some of the performances featured include Fusion Dance Co., Great Dunmow Primary School, St. Mary’s Primary School, Scene II Theatre School, Marcelle School of Dancing, Shake and Shuffle dance and fitness class.

The Town Crier will introduce all the visiting carnival queens and the carnival court. The free event will host first the Helena Romanes Band and a Justin Bieber tribute, pop-classical crossover Silken Strings and Autumn Stone cover band. Finishing off with nostalgic classic and jazz outfits of the 1970s, with Uncle Funk and The Boogie Wonderband.

A fireworks display will light up the evening sky of the free event. Throughout the day, there will be a licensed bar, stalls and a circus, plus many other performances and acts. Chairman of the Procession Committee, Keith Wheatcroft, hopes to get 50 to 60 floats to parade and thinks this is to be the biggest and best carnival in Essex.
