The Barge to host free music event in Grimsby

September 5th, 2016 by Sandy

The Barge, a popular pub at the Riverhead in Grimsby, will be hosting its first outdoor music festival, the BargeFest 2016, at the town centre. The free event will be held on 10th September (Saturday), with music from acts such as Just Mammals, Sewer Rats and others. The music festival will raise money for the Grimsby branch of the charity- The Guide Dogs For The Blind Association. Headlining the festival will be Three Day millionaires, the Hull-based rockers, which will be playing from 2pm to 10pm. Other acts include East On Main, Church of Lies, Siknotes, Johnny Utah and Dharma.

The Barge has a long tradition of supporting the guide dogs charity. The pub will on the day be selling home-made burgers and Italian ice-creams too. Tina Johnson of the charity said they would not be able to support without such generosity and added that there was a big demand in the area for guide dogs. The owner of the Barge for the last 25 years, Derrick Howard, spoke of his excitement about the inaugural outdoor music gig. The bar manager Janene Jackson said that thanks to the relationship the pub had with the community, they have been able to plan the free event. She hoped their first ever music event would be a success and be able to raise the money.
