Two sailing clubs, the Tamworth Sailing Club and Shustoke Sailing Club are welcoming people of all ages, abilities and experience to the open day they will be hosting on 9th April, Saturday. Tamworth SC will be welcoming visitors to Kingsbury Water Park, from 10am to 3pm. Meanwhile Shustoke SC will be open to visitors from 11am to 6pm at Shustoke Reservoir. Both the sailing clubs are recognised Training Centres of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA).
People can try out the sport by getting out on the water with an experienced member of the club, besides getting a taster of all activities both these clubs will be offering over the year. A RYA spokesperson said sailing is a real family friendly sport. Once into the sport, one can sail on their own, or in pairs, or together with family, depending on the boat that’s enjoyable, the spokesperson said. The Open Days welcome those who never had considered a boat, or those who would like to learn but need to sample the sport, or sailors new to the area looking for a club, or who may not have sailed for some time. To enjoy the Open Days, one needs some comfortable clothing, some old trainers and don’t mind getting wet, as safety brief, equipment and buoyancy aids will be provided, added the spokesperson.
The sailing clubs perform to the highest standards in safety and quality and are running also throughout the year various learn to sail and improver courses of RYA. As part of the RYA Push the Boat Out programme, the clubs will be opening doors to more taster sessions. It is part of the ‘have a go at sailing’ festival being held from 14 May (Saturday) to 22 May (Sunday).
