The University of Edinburgh Business School will present a day-long festival on 8th March. The programme is packed with events for entrepreneurs and students. The Startup Festival 2017, through 14 free events, will not only inspire entrepreneurs and students, but will also offer networking opportunities, skills and knowledge. The events help students find about their potential and those intent to promote and celebrate, not only Edinburgh, but Scotland too, as a great place to start businesses, to work, study and live.
The festival starts off with a debate by cities, bringing in leaders from, not only Edinburgh, but from Lisbon and Waterloo in Canada, also known for being international hubs for startups. The panel chaired by Jonathan Moules (Financial Times) will discuss what strategies can be used to attract investors, talent and a sustainable ecosystem for cities.
Prospectove student entrepreneurs will present their ideas and ventures, to vie for prizes sponsored by Grant Property and Santander. Also, successful startups from Scotland will be sharing their experiences. The event will bring success stories like Tens, Administrate, Neatebox and Freeagent, Freedom Bakery and Edingburgh Larder to attenees. The festival will showcase entrepreneurship and know-how from all walks of life, across a range of sectors, through workshops, storytelling, games and debates.
Following the success of the inaugural festival in 2016, which drew over 1,200 attendances over 11 events in 14 hours, it will feature the E Club Awards again for outstanding achievement in business in Edingburgh. Dean of the University of Edinburgh Business School, Professor Wendy Loretto, said that set against the backdrop of their world leading university, they have a thriving ecosystem of incubators, support network, startups and resources to make Edinburgh a great place to start up. They invite everyone to celebrate Edinburgh’s entrepreneurial success and its ambitions for the future, she added.
