The streets and buildings of Leed’s city centre will come alive on 3rd October, Friday, as the city celebrates the ‘Art in the Dark’ phenomenon on its 10th anniversary. More than 50 free events and street performances will be hosted for all ages.
Highlights include the city’s Civil Hall being transformed by a digital spectacle of light and sound and fireworks to follow. There will be Body Remixer on Victoria Gardens, a take on ‘Heads, Body, Tails’ playground game in fun, Ewett Machines at the Merion Centre and performance of a love song from ‘The Coronation of Poppeaā€¯ (of Montiverdi) by Opera North. Many of Leed’s city centre shopping centres, theatres, universities, museums, galleries and open spaces will open doors during Light Night. There will be different forms of entertainment from the city’s eight zones. Light Night this year has funding from the Arts Council England and is supporting emerging artists from the SHINE programme. Anna Politiko’s work Ghost Tram will be shown. The Squishy Sculpture Park by Nick Kidd will be shown.
Leed City Council’s Executive Board Member, Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, said the fantastic Light Night event returns for the 10th year with plenty of street entertainment, varied events and street food.
