Shepton Mallet’s Lantern Festival will be back for the seventh time this year, when the illuminated lantern parade will be held on 17th December, Saturday, at Shepton, Somerset. The amazing sights with lanterns of all shapes and sizes will assemble at the bandstand in Collett Park and then proceed down High Street to the Market Place.
To liven up the great evening, Samba Sulis, The Big Noise Street Band and Shepton Sings will provide musical entertainment. At the end of the parade mince pies, turkey rolls and mulled wine and other refreshments will be offered in the Market Place. Dominic Weston, one of the volunteer organisers, said the festival celebrates the town’s creativity and finds joy in the middle of winter, where nearly anyone can create a lantern and participate in the parade.
Get a chance to make a lantern or take the kids along to see the artistic creative work at the upcoming workshops to be held on 2nd, 10th and 17th December. Children below 16 years must be supervised. Lantern creations will be displayed from 10am at the Paul Street Community Centre. The free event is run entirely by volunteers with local businesses involved and to sponsor the parade.
