The Reading Arts Week is an open event to artists from the borough and surrounding areas, to submit for the display of their works, both for professionals and amateurs. It’s open to anyone above the age of 16 years, working or living in Reading and in neighbouring areas. Amateur artists are particularly welcome to show their works here, which include sculpture, ceramics, glass, mosaic, furniture, textiles, jewellery, photography and digital art. The event is in its 8th year and is run in July.
The main exhibition will beheld on 16th July, Saturday, and 17th July, Sunday. On 15th July, private view for artists will take place at 5:30pm. Those artists entering, when selected, also get an opportunity for a mini-exhibition of theirs, during the event. The deadline for artists to submit up to 2 pieces of their work, is on midnight of 20 June, Monday.
A series of free taster workshops and demonstrations will be held by New Directions at Caversham, from their North Reading Centre. The lead member of Reading Borough Council, in charge for sport, culture and consumer service, Councillor Paul Gittings, said that the Reading Arts Week is still a popular event and he is happy to see it returning during the ‘Readings Year of Culture.’
