The Medway Council will be hosting a free event to bring history back to life, on 24th October, with the re-enactment of the siege of Rochester Castle, as it happened 800 years ago. The huge free event at Boley Hill, Rochester, will bring the story to life with battle scenes enacted by actors on horseback, stunning lighting, even fireworks and with pre-recorded footage. People can watch a clever projection to see the south-east tower collapse stone by stone before their eyes.
The council will stage on Saturday (24 October), four shows that will run at 5.30pm, then at 6.30pm, later at 7.30pm and finally at 8.30pm. The show will last 30 minutes each. Tickets are not required and the audience can watch from designated spaces around Boley Hill. This year for Medway is a most historically significant year and also celebrates the 800th anniversary of the historical siege.
The show will begin with Dr. Marc Morris’ introduction. The historian had presented the Castle programme on Channel 4. Head of community services at Medway Council, Councillor Howard Dee, said to bring history to life before our eyes is one of their most ambitious projects ever undertaken. This would be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the siege re-enacted in a spectacular way as it happened, with people of ages going to enjoy it, said the councillor about the free event to be hosted.
