The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle, of Teesdale, Durham, will host a public event on 7th December (Wednesday), the first to celebrate the acquisition of the rare painting- ‘St. Luke Drawing the Virgin and Child’. The day, offering free admission and a programme of free events, will start off with a gallery talk at 10:30am by Bernadette Patti. It will be followed by Silverpoint drawing workshop.
A workshop on Watercolour Landscape will be held at 12:30pm, followed by a gallery talk at 1:30pm by Howard Coutts. St.Luke as an Artist in the 15th Century Netherlands, is the title of the lecture of Dr. Jeanne Nuchterlien from York University, to be given at 4pm, at the Jubilee Room. The talk will examine the painting and the visual references to other important paintings of artists like Roger van der Weyden and Jan van Eyck.
A joint lecture will be delivered at 5:30pm, by Britta New and Rachel Billinge, from the National Gallery on painter Dieric Bouts and early Netherlands paintings. Questions will be answered in Room 31, in front of the rare painting for a 6pm talk, after the wine reception from 5:30pm.
