Kids are being invited to a pirate school this summer, on a 27-foot long pirate ship, grounded at a Midland shopping centre. The installation is at Telford Shopping Centre. Kids on their summer holidays are invited to make masks, puppets and swords at the pirate school. Included are singing and games on Mondays, with dressing up, pirate mask making and treasure hunts on Tuesdays. On Wednesdays, there’s pirate puppet making and shows. Thursdays are for walk the plank challenges and for swashbuckling sword making. Fridays host party games and hat-making.
Katie Broome, marketing manager of the centre, said every year they aim to open the summer holidays with something special and this year is most exciting, continuing with the Carnival of Giants’ ‘under the sea’ theme, they have installed here a colossal pirate ship.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays a real life mermaid will entertain visitors at Dean Squire and in New Row there will be a magnificent selfie statue. To win a treasure of games and toys, plus a Telford Centre gift-card for £50, visitors have to find a key word following the trail of golden coins placed all over the shopping centre.
Until 6th August, on every Saturday and Sunday, at 10:30 am there will be free live pirate ship shows, again followed at 12:30pm and later at 2:30pm. From 24th July to 4th August, craft activities will be run on weekdays. On 25th and 27th July, and on 1st and 3rd August, there will be the mermaid. All are free events and activities, together with a stature for a selfie competition and a mermaid for story-telling, to make your visit worthwhile during the summer holidays.
