Pedal Portsmouth Glow Ride event coming soon

October 18th, 2016 by Sandy

The Portsmouth City Council will be hosting a free event- the Pedal Portsmouth Glow Ride, on 22nd October (Saturday). The free event will see hundreds of cyclists, riding by the Southsea seafront, taking place for the first time this year. Attending cyclists will be urged to wear high visibility and glow-in-the-dark clothing and accessories, in an event organised to raise awareness for cycle safety and in partnership with “Be Bright, Be Seen” campaign to remind cyclists to make themselves visible on the road.

The family-friendly riding event will be on a route that’s traffic-free, along the Southsea seafront, to start at the Blue Reef Aquarium, at 6pm, riding up to 7pm. Cyclists of all ages and abilities will be allowed to ride at their own pace through the course that’s making use of the closures put up already for the Great South Run. The council’s Councillor Jim Fleming, the cabinet member for traffic & transportation, said they are happy to offer something that’s a bit different from the last two successful Pedal Portsmouth cycling events, with this new free event, the Pedal Portsmouth Glow Ride. He hoped that many families will decorate their bikes and dress-up brightly and encouraged them to continue cycling safely all through the year. To sign-up, the registration will be open from 5pm. More information is at the Portsmouth council website (portsmouth.gov.uk).
