Nottingham city Council is intent to make 24th June, celebrating Armed Forces Day, a great free event. The council will support by offering funds and free venues for the celebrations. In previous years, the council has funded and organised the event for the veteran’s organisations. This time the council is inviting groups to organise events and is offering free of charge its venues, like the Wollaton Park. To get people involved in the community events, staged by the groups, the council is making funds available also, for this important occasion.
Larger regional events, due to be held this year in Derby and Newark, are also being supported by the council, as it is keen to be the host city in coming years for all this. The Armed Forces Day will be incorporated also into the Lord Mayors Parade, a free event taking place on 24th June , Saturday. The council in this year is also hosting for both HMS Sherwood and Est Midlands Air Squadron, two Fredon of the City Parades. Nottingham council has started planning for the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One, to be marked next year.
