July 27th, 2015 by Sandy

Around a million people will be flooding to the Notting Hill Carnival in west London on 30th August, Sunday. Described as Europe’s biggest street party, the free event is a riot of colour and sound, celebrating cultural diversity. Events are also planned for Saturday (29 August) too, with the Panaroma, the open air event, hosting competitive performances by steel bands from across UK. The London Calypso Tent will be put up by The Association of British Clyposonians to bring story-telling, political commentary, poetry and more for visitors.

The Sunday parade doubles as a family day with the popular Children’s Parade, colourful costumes and family events. Powis Square will have the World Music Stage hosting a vibrant collection of Caribbean music. The Grand Finale falls on 31st August, Monday, with carnival-goers parading and around, with 60 bands and sound systems providing the rhythms to revellers. The parade will start at 10AM from the Great Western Road in the east. The procession will move onto Chepstow Road, then across to Westbourne Grove and to Ladbroke Grove, to wind down by around 6:30PM. Sound systems will be blaring out all sorts of music- Latin, calypso, soca and more. Food-stalls too will dot the area with a wide variety of dishes, BBQ and many other cuisines will be served during this free street festival.
