Nordic walking taster session by Uttlesford council

January 3rd, 2016 by Sandy

The Uttlesford District Council is offering a Nordic walking taster session to help people get in shape. The free session in the new year will be held on 11th January, Monday, in Thaxted, with instructor Paul Goddard to lead the session. Following the session, the council is offering its award-winning ‘Learn To’ Nordic walking course. Interested walkers will have to assemble at Margaret Street car-park and the session starts at 9:30am. The full course with four sessions starts on 18th January (Monday) and runs until 25th January, and again from 1st February to 8th February, costing £39.

Nordic walking involves the use of poles to walk distances. It gives the body a full workout, just as a cross-trainer in gyms. It exercises both upper body muscles and the legs. Nordic walking, the NHS recognises, is a way to reduce the risk of asthma, type 2 diabetes, heart diseases, other chronic illnesses and some cancers. It can be used just as any other exercise to lose weight too. Anybody interested in the taster session for Nordic Walking should book a place, as spaces are limited. Call by phone to- 01799-510510, or send email to- uconnect@uttlesford.gov.uk. Participants are required to download a health questionnaire from the site uttlesford.gov.uk/nordicwalking, fill it and bring it on the day.
