Museum at Night, a free event that focuses on bats

May 5th, 2015 by Sandy

A free event, the Museum at Night event, will be held in Sherborne, on 15th May. The event starts at 6:00pm and runs up to 8:00pm, and bats will be special guests appearing at the Sherborne Museum, Church Lane, Sherborne, Dorset. Registered bat handler of East Dorset Bat Rescue and Rehabilitation, Sally Humphreys, will be at the free event, at hand to answer any questions.
All the 17 bat species of bats found in Britain can be found in Dorset. The Museum at Night will feature only pipstrelle, noctule, serotine and long-eared bats, in ecopods with cold packs when displayed to the public. The rescue and rehabilitation group takes in injured or stranded bats and nurses them with help by a specialist vet, back to health. Some of the bats take part in outreach programmes and educational activities. Some are cared for, if not released back into the wild, as half of which are freed.
