To mark the ICC Women’s World Cup, the ECB is launching nationally 180 Soft Ball Cricket Festivals, this summer, for women of all abilities. Six soft ball festivals will be delivered in July, by Cumbria Cricket working with local clubs. The third and final series of the festivals is at Keswick Cricket Club. Every festival will have its own entertainment, that includes music, BBQs and stalls.Director of Women and Girls’ Cricket, Penny Thompson, said they were delighted to launch this initiative in Cumbria, with so many girls and women discovering cricket now. Women’s soft ball is a typical case of mixing up the rules to fit the sport for players.
Women’s and Girls’ Development Officer, Laura Marshall, said they wanted to encourage everyone to come, targeting at new women to cricket with friends, for a great first experience, with fun and friendly games, on a free fun day. The Women’s Soft Ball Cricket Festivals are for everyone, a new social game for all abilities, but it is aimed particularly at women who haven’t played any cricket earlier and everyone registering for the free event can expect something different. Anyone can get involved, as a team or individual, by registering for free through an online link on Cumbria Cricket website (www.cumbriacricket.co.uk and http://bit.ly/wsbf_CumbriaCricket.) More free events and festivals will run over the next 3weeks across the county.
