Google has opened a new space in London, called the Academy. The space located in Victoria, Central London, has 40,000 sq.ft. dedicated to teach people of all abilities and ages, the digital skills. The opening coincides with the London Tech Week.

The Academy will offer free courses for both educational programmes and digital training, to prepare both children and present workforce, in anticipation of changes impacted by digital change. Although it is not announced as yet,it will be advertised via partner organisations.

Google claims the new building will bring some 3,000 new jobs by 2020 and the new headquarters adds to four of their other properties situated in Tottenham Court Road, Kings Cross and Victoria. The company has plans for another building, to house over 4,000 employees, complete with running tracks and rooftop garden, with work to start in 2018.

It was in November last year that Google’s Chief Executive, Sunder Pichai, announced the skills training plans. He says everybody deserves to benefit from the opportunities offered by the web, from education to information.

Their aim is to see every individual and business in UK gets the needed support to make the most of the digital age, to compete, to innovate and for a fruitful career, using online tools, whether a student searching for a job, a musician promoting his music, or a small business looking for new customers, he added. The chief executive wanted people to take advantage of the free training made available.
