Scotland’s next big multi-sport event is the inaugural European Championship at Glasgow. It will be held from 2nd to 12th August. The first ever Glasgow 2018 European Championship will be a 11-day celebration, attracting athletes from gymnastics, golf, cycling, rowing, aquatics and triathlon, to various venues, not only in Glasgow, but across Scotland. Some of the highlights are below.

The official mascot for the sporting event is Bonnie, the seal pup. The mascot will help celebrate sport and young people, meeting children and families, community and sporting groups, all over Scotland and across the UK.
Many of the events and competitions will take place across 12 different venues and many of them were for Glasgow 2014, like the Tollcross International Swimming Centre and Cathkin Braes Mountain Bike Trails, the SSE Hydro, the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and on the streets for Road Raceand Time Trails, which are just a few.
Some of the best athletes in Europe are expected to come to this international multi-sport event. Around 3,000 athletes are expected, as part of a total of about 8,500 people, that includes officials and the media. The event is expected to be watched by more than a billion people of Europe, via free-to-view television channels and BBC’s coverage of the event.

Not only are sport and games coming to Glasgow, there’s the Festival 2018 hosting music, dance, street art, visual art, design and theatre. A selection of free events including cultural events will be held simultaneously, centred around George Square. It would be a hub of activities, with food and family fun and a big screen to watch events.
