Any car which has emission equal to or less than 100g/km can qualify for free road tax thereby helping owners save a tidy sum.
The wonderful news is that there are a lot of the new generation cars that will qualify for free road tax and this in turn would help such car owners to save quite some money in the long run. The question however is what the way to avail of free road tax is? Since the 1st of March 2001, all cars have been taxed in accordance to its emission and they are weighed on a scale of A to M, where each of the letters is corroborated with a certain price tag. Typically the tax can also range from the new cars to the ones that may need ensuing tax payment. The example taken here is, if a car is placed in the “I” category it implies that the emission from that car can vary between 176g/km to 185g/km. The tax for the first year for “I” category both diesel or petrol cars will be about 345 pounds, and this will come down to 215 pounds from the subsequent year. Now a car classified in the “M” category would have to be paid road tax of 1030 pounds in the first year and 475 pounds in the subsequent years. If the owner of a car has to try to get free tax discs for his car every year he must have a car that emits less than 100g/km or lower.
Some of the cars that have such low emission rates are the Nissan Micra 1.2 DIG-S Visia5d. The emission rate for this car is as low as 95g/km and it gives an average of 68.9mpg. The cost of this car is 11,250 pounds The Nissan Micra is known to have confident handling, a lot of equipment and great quality of build. Another more or less similar car with extremely low emission is the VW Polo Blue Motion 1.2 TDI 3dr that costs 15,265 pounds. In fact the emission rate of this car is a mere 91g/km, averaging 80.7mpg.
Both the above mentioned cars have excellent acceleration touching 62mph in 11.3 seconds and 13.9 seconds correspondingly. Other cars that can avail of free tax discs are the Citreon C3 1.4 HDi 16v VT, the Ford Fiesta Edge Ecotronic 1.6 TDCi DPF 3dr, the Fiat 500 0.9 TwinAir Pop and the Kia Picanto 1.25 Halo EcoDynamics. With the present road tax system as it is now, it would any day be worth a person’s while purchasing any one of the cars mentioned above. The fact is that all cars will generally get into the category of the 100g/km or lower and this will as one can rightly guess bring down the government revenue on taxes considerably. So it would not be surprising if they decide to later the mode and category of taxing soon.
