Free workshops for small independent retail businesses at Crawley College

Crawley’s small independent retailers will get a chance to take part in various free workshops on improving their sales. Crawley Borough Council along with Crawley College and Solent University has organised for free workshops as a part of Small Independent Retail Training & Support Programme to grow the local businesses by giving hands on support to them.

These free and innovative training programmes provide support to small retailers gaining knowledge & develop skills to improve their business. Already workshops on the topics Targeting the Customers were held on 10th September, Visual Merchandising on 24th September and First Impressions on 8th October.

The upcoming workshops under this programme are as below:

Space planning:

There will be held Space Planning workshop on Monday – October 22, 2018 at Corporate Suite, Crawley College, Crawley RH10 1NR. The workshop will run from 10 am to 1 pm. This session will cover shop space planning to make it as enjoyable place for shopping. It will have planning for open up or section off areas in the store, sightlines, prioritising zones and use of floor/ wall space. There will be a design clinic where you can bring your images and put questions related to your business.

Retail & Digital Marketing:

On Monday – November 5, 2018 there will be a workshop on Retail & Digital Marketing at Crawley College between 10 am to 1 pm. The session will cover how to use social media & digital media for marketing and evaluating the right channels suitable for your business.

Buying for profit

On Monday – November 19, 2018 there will be held a workshop on Buying for profit at Crawley College between 10 am to 1 pm. The workshop will tell about finding the needs of your customers and keeping up-to-date product/service offers.

A Council spokesman said that the workshops are suitable for small independent retailers which worth over £1,800. The participants are given with choice to choose all the workshops or those required to attend. Those retailers need one-to-one support can apply for the mentoring programme.

Cabinet member for Planning & Economic Development – Councillor Peter Smith said that they are having wide range of independent retailers in Crawley and the council want to ensure that they get the best from local opportunities, whether funding, support or training. He is inviting all the retailers to make use of the best opportunities.
