There will be a free lantern parade taking place on Friday – November 30, 2018 at Cockermouth with the lanterns made at the free workshop on 24th November. The parade will start from Memorial Gardens, Cockermouth, Cumbria CA13 0HR from 5.30 pm and complete by 6 pm. This years parade is in the aid of local flood victims. The parade will be led by Cockermouth Music School’s Samba band from the town to the town hall. A creative group, which includes New Arts North, Riversmeet, Sing Owt and the Kirkgate Centre, has been formed to manage the event.
Before the lantern parade, there will be a free workshop on lantern making on Saturday – November 24, 2018 at Highfield Community Centre, Highfield Road, Cockermouth CA13 9JF. Already one workshop had been got over on 17th November at the Kirgate Centre, Cockermouth.
The sessions will run between 10 am to 4 pm on the day. The workshop is being supported by Riversmeet Community Co-operative, Kirkgate arts, Cumbria CC and Allerdale BC.
A spokesman said that this year they adopt river industry theme. Stomping Ground who are professional lantern makers, will help the participants to create a lantern inspired by the industrial river heritage of Cockermouth and it covers chimneys, mills, shoes, tanneries, gloves, hats, waterwheels and brewing.
