Free workshop on children education at London

There has been a free workshop “Young People & Decision Making – The Mental Capacity Act 2005”organised on Saturday – March 9, 2019 at the The Isobel Centre, Linden Lodge School, 61 Princes Way, Wimbledon Park, London SW19 6JB. The session will be held between 10 am to 1 pm.

The workshop has been hosted by Wandsworth Sensory Support Service and Linden Lodge School and supported by National Sensory Impairment Partnership (NatSIP). The workshop is mainly focused on parents of youngsters aged between 16 to 25 years and looking for educational placement or having learning difficulties. It also suits the parents of 14+ years who are planning for their education of kids upon reaching 16 years.

The workshop will be led by Jane Sinson who is a HCPC registered Educational Psychologist. Jane Sinson has been taking part in developing the materials & training on the Mental Capacity Act of NatSIP and she wrote the book “Applying the Mental Capacity Act 2005 in Education: A Practical Guide for Education Professionals”. She has worked for around 20 years as a local authority educational psychologist and special needs teacher in schools.

As per the Mental Capacity Act 2005, young people, on their 16th birthday, can able to take their own decision on their education, health & social care. This Act is applicable to parents and education/ health/ social care professionals.

By attending this workshop, you will come to know about the Mental Capacity Act 2005, its principles, various legal definitions such as capacity, lacking capacity etc & how to assess the capacity, when a young person lacks in capacity to make a decision on his education, then it is decided by their parents based on ‘best interests’ checklist according the act and how parents can motivate and support young ones on making decisions.
