There is a workshop at the Sheffield University open to everyone, on 26th August (Saturday), by the team from Vaughan Williams Memorial Library. The workshop is being led by Laura Smyth, Julia Bishop and Bryony Griffith. The workshop will give a deeper insight into doing research online to those new to or having little experience with the digital resources available. The Vaughan Williams Memorial Library (VWML) is the leading resource of folk material, available in a vast digital collection and indexes.
Laura Smyth, VWML Director, will lead the workshop’s morning session to demonstrate the usage of the VWML website, to get the best out of it. The Carpenter Folk Online Project will be featured here, that was earlier only available at the Library of Congress. Co-Investigator Julie Bishop of the Carpenter folk Online Project will be there to help.
The workshop’s afternoon session will have an award-winning singer and fiddle-player interacting. Bryony Griffith from West Yorkshire, has 20 years experience in researching and preserving folk material for performance and education. He will demonstrate songs from the digital archive, on how they create memorable learning experiences and fun in primary schools.
The free workshop will take place at the university’s Humanities Research Institute on 34, Gell Street, in Sheffield.
