A spectacular opening event has been scheduled for the start of the Edinburgh International Festival this year and over 27,000 free tickets will be released for the show. The opening show, Deep Time, will display over 350 million years of Edinburgh’s history in 18 minutes. It will start with the rock’s beginnings in pre-historic times, under the sea, near the equator. The free event will be held on 7th August (Sunday), at 10:30pm.
The team that masterminded last year’s opening event, the 59 Productions, will present the next 3 opening events of the festival. The innovative large-scale public audio-visual show will be displayed on the side of Edinburgh’s famous Castle Rock. The display of the geological history of Castle Rock will be the first of 3, to be sponsored by Standard Life.
The members of the public can watch the show from the Castle Terrace while on the NCP car park. It can be seen from the road behind it, from the street nearby and from the roundabout at the end of Johnson Terrace. The free tickets will be available from 11th July (Monday) from the International Festival. Only 2 tickets will be available to each person asking. The second release of tickets will be on 1st August (Monday) and a limited release will be on the day before the show on 6th August (Saturday).
