There has been free taster session on folk music organized by the New Calder Youth Folk Project on Saturday – January 26, 2019 at the Terrace Room of Hebden Bridge Town Hall, St George’s St, Hebden Bridge HX7 7BY between 10 am to 12 pm.
The Hebden Royd Town Council has supported for the launch of the Hebden Bridge project. Young musicians having interested in folk with grade 1 & above and aged between 10 to 18 years can come along with their traditional music instruments and try out free taster session and join the folk band.
The local group of musicians & parents have created the Calder Valley Youth Folk Music project which has been led by Alison Bravington. They are working to restore the British Isles’ traditional folk music among the present generation youngsters who are residing in the Hebden Bridge & Upper Calder Valley area.
Jenny Trott has been appointed as a first tutor for the project and she is having experience of 4 years in teaching fiddle and also playing in the local group. She said that there will be regular sessions beginning from February and will run on Monday evenings in the Hope Baptist church hall. After the taster session, the project is to invite interested youngsters for such sessions.
Alison Bravington said that they are expecting youngsters of aged 10-18 years who may be flautists, fiddlers, squeeze box players or guitarists having basic knowledge of playing simple tunes with grade 1 or above standard.
Neil Diment – CYF’s treasurer said that they feel delighted to get a grant from the Hebden Royd Town Council to start such project. Those interested just come along with your own instrument and no need for booking required. But it will be helpful for the organizing team, if you can inform your visit in advance.
