Local residents of those aged above 50 years are invited to the George Hurd Activity Centre at Essex for various free taster sessions on Tuesday – October 9, 2018 at their club located at Audley Way, Basildon, Essex SS14 2FL. The centre has announced it as a open day and encouraging them to try out various activities at the centre.
The George Hurd Activity Centre is a friendly and lively place for elder people in the area to meet, interact and socialise with each other located in the heart of Basildon. The centre is very old club started in the year 1969 by Councillor George Hurd and built new complex in 2008. The club is open from Monday to Friday between 9 am to 4.30 pm.
There will be regular classes of activities, fitness, crafts and dance classes, Snooker, bowls etc. You can visit the Hairdresser in week days on appointment and Reflexology on Thursday every 2 weeks upon appointment. Beyond this, there will be regular entertainment events, special events of dinner/celebrations, various day trip per year to the places which include Rambles, London shows, Shopping trips, coastal tours & others places of entertainment.
Chairman of Basildon Council’s Communities Committee – Councillor Andrew Barnes said that their centres are great opportunity for older residents who feel isolated or lonely and the activity centre makes them entertained, feel happy and active. They get a chance to socialise in the group. They are encouraging older residents aged above 50 years in the borough to make use of the open day to find more about their club and its activities.
